This year, the week of May 11 through the 17th is National Nursing Home Week® (NNHW) and American Health Care Association (AHCA) has created a special theme and events to promote the week and share best practices.

AHCA’s Hawaiian theme, Living the Aloha Spirit, is based on the island’s Aloha principle of “showing others love and respect and joyfully share life in order to create a better world.”  According to AHCA, key attributes of the Aloha Spirit include “patience, kindness and good feelings and respect in caring about others.” If your Senior Living and Post-Acute Care center’s goal is to focus on “person-centered team care in a harmonious, caring environment,” then by AHCA’s – and the Hawaiians’ – standard, you are Living the Aloha Spirit!

For NNHW 2014, ACHA encourages Senior Living and Post-Acute Care communities to promote messages throughout the week that demonstrate the qualities of: Patience, Kindness, Harmony and Good Feelings in Caring and Respect for Others. “We at VCPI strongly endorse these values within our own organization and the Senior Living and Post-Acute Care community and enthusiastically support ACHA’s National Nursing Home Week efforts,” said Katey Sidesky, Marketing & Business Development Manager.
